Thames Library offers a Library Information Programme for Schools (LIPS) to all schools in the Thames area. This programme has been up and running for the last three years and is altered to suit different age groups. With LIPS we aim to give students the information, skills and encouragement they need to use and enjoy the library. The LIPS programme teaches students the works of our library and requires a weekly visit, of one hour, for six to ten weeks to our library. Arrangement of times and dates can be made through the library, see contact details below. Below is a basic outline of the topics covered throughout a LIPS programme for a class of 10-11 year olds: Library tour, library membership, book issues, returns, security, book care, seek and find game, picture and fiction books, using the online-catalogue, Dewey, research training, index and contents pages, choosing books you like and finding specific books from a prepared list. If you have any questions or would like to enrol for this programme contact Rachael at Thames Library on 07 868 6616 or email rachael.choppin@thameslibrary.co.nz |
